From Trieste, it's only an hour and a half drive, so you can stop along the way and visit beautiful Istria and still make it to the sea for a swim. Although guests from Germany often come to the island of Krk, even from Munich, the drive takes a little longer (6 hours) than the other examples mentioned, but this is not an obstacle to a pleasant trip on the highway with your family.
